Re: Does it make sense to start at 4x25?

For those who wonder, the vanguard index funds consist of multiple classes of the same fund. They are able to launder their gains through the institutional and ETF class. https://www.investopedia.com/how-vanguard-patented-a-system-to-avoid-taxes-in-mutual-funds-4686985 The process is completely leg...

Re: Does it make sense to start at 4x25?

In 2008-09, after reading Bill Bernstein’s Four Pillars Of Investing, I rebooted into stock index funds for tax efficiency in my taxable space. Since then the value is WAY up but I have paid next to no taxes on any of the gains. I’ve paid on the dividends, of course, taxed at favorable qualified div...

Re: Misc. U.S. Elections

How much "Resistance" will there be this time? Will it be a normal opposition or will it be like 2016? I don't expect the opposition people in powerful DC positions to go quietly. But this time they don't have the House to bring an impeachment about nothing, as they did for his policy abou...

Re: Misc. U.S. Elections

If it wasn't a landslide, it was at least a rock slide, the kind that tears up US Hwy 101 in California every so often.

The House margin being so slim, every interim election for a vacant seat will become a battle royale, unless it's a deep red or blue district.

The election was not simply about Trump. The result will never make sense to anyone that continues to frame it that way. Care to share your analysis? Almost any half decent R candidate would have won. Harris was arguably the worst presidential candidate in modern times. And most of what she represe...

Re: Health Care Reform

I'll take a crack at it. As a traditionally agrarian society, urban southerners retain more rural traditions than urban northerners, whose ancestors were manufacturing in big cities much earlier. I think it’s more about ancestry. The Scandinavians, Dutch, Germans were more self-sufficient, introver...

Re: Stock scream room

You have put a lot more thought into this than I have, but I agree with your conclusion. It’s not a bubble, but it has been a one way trade for too long. There is a lot of stupid money bidding up the prices of big ticket items, and a lot of debt. It’s time. I just can't help but think that stocks (a...

I've had a flare up and was at the pulmonologist yesterday. I asked him if there was any merit to my thought that maybe it was from COVID. He sai...

But I think there are still "in kind" distributions allowed. However I don't know of any EFT that will distribute gold to you. Unless you are a market maker for the fund.

Isn't Schwab reportedly struggling? I have very limited experience with them but one thing that stood out was that they try to keep you cash in a "cash" status rather than in a low cost money market fund. It seemed I would have to move money from cash to a money market fund every time some...

That's very interesting. We have stuck with VG through thick and thin, even as many people were saying on Bogleheads that they were giving up and moving to Fidelity. VG has definitely struggled to keep up with its growth, but I've never felt anything like what you posted there.

I wonder what percentage of crypto, or bitcoin specifically, is held in "accounts" versus directly by the owner. I would think the accounts would be easily subject to taxation.

Study calls for US taxation of cryptocurrency

I know the Fed wonks issue all kinds of studies. And that a lot of it is just brainstorming which might not amount to anything actually being done. This one is interesting. The actual report is way too deep for me, but what I get out of it is that they are saying, "here's how we can have perman...
