Election Day/Night Open Thread
Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
Ad, any comments on the accuracy of the polls?

Same as always for me in the checking in. I was asked my address. Then I was asked if I was the person whose name was at that address. Never any more than that.Tortoise wrote: ↑Tue Nov 03, 2020 4:46 pm My in-person voting experience on Sunday was kind of unexpected, too.
Nobody asked to see my photo ID. I had to provide my name, address, date of birth, phone number, and signature. The woman then handed me a ballot that looked exactly like my mail-in ballot. As in identical in every way.
After I filled it out in the booth using a marker, I was directed to drop it in a cardboard box with a slit cut in the side. I didn't see any machines anywhere.

We need a total constitutional rewrite. Of course we can't even get a spending bill passed so that will never happen. But our countrys political system sucks and going backwards MAGA style won't fix it. I'm thinking multiparty palimentary system...with firmly expressed campaign rules...these endless years long billion dollar smear campaigns have got to stop. It's a horsehit way to select representatives.

Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
One thing that should be clear, ok with you guys, probably not, in watching the back and forth for the past few hours, the is no obvious stealing of the election by either side.
Can we agree? Florida for example, is strongly Trump. Ohio looks like it will be red. Either would have ended it for Trump.
Interesting stuff
Multiparty parliamentary system, I would vote for that.

Holy hell....Q Anon promoter Marjorie Taylor Greene is going to have a seat in the house. We truly are a country of idiots.
Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
That's another thing that has me banging my head against the wall...the rise of this conspiracy porn that is becoming all pervasive in this country. It's not enough to disagree with someone's political beliefs...we have to create this narrative that they rape children and drink their blood. It's insane!
Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
With the type of ridiculous slander going around I think we should reinstate culture of honor dueling. If someone wants to accuse me of raping children and drinking their blood then I should have the right to meet them on a grassy field with a pistol. Let's do this America....the television ratings would be through the roof! We could become the world's very own reality tv show.

Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
Well they certainly nailed Florida. But Arizona looks like a miss. And GA, NC and OH were all labeled as a coin toss by the more reputable polls. Trump is leading narrowly in all three as I type. The three that will bear watching are WI, MI, and PA which has decided that election dates have no meaning and we can all wait until Friday or even next week.

Ohio has been called for Trump and its looking highly likely that NC is going to fall in line as well.

Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
Some places in Georgia and PA have suspended counting for the night. Atlanta is buried in mail in ballots which need to be counted and those tend to break Democratic. Likewise mail in Ballots are the last to be counted in PA. So I doubt we are going to have a winner declared before sometime tomorrow afternoon. If then.

Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
Now Trump is claiming that the election is being stolen. This is a bold faced lie. The only electoral corruption I am seeing are attempts by Republicans to prevent ballots from being counted.
Donald Trump is the most dishonest and profoundly corrupt president in US history. No president has ever before tried to undermine public confidence in the integrity of our elections through a campaign of prevarication and outright lies for their political gain. I detest this vile and wicked man with every fiber of my being.

Trump is about to come out to speak.
Good!
I need some entertainment!
All the other politicians I've heard tonight who have been droning on typical politician fashion have been dull, dull, dull!
I can hardly listen to a word any of them say due to their politician dullness.
I've been spoiled by what I get from the Trump Big Top!!!
I am now seeing Trump not winning, 213-225.

Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
Is this any surprise. Trump will probably have to fire Christie now.
Former New Jersey governor and top Trump ally Chris Christie voiced disagreement overnight with President Trump’s election night remarks prematurely declaring victory and attacking legitimate vote counting efforts. Christie said Trump “undercut his own credibility.”
“There’s just no basis to make that argument tonight. There just isn’t. All these votes have to be counted that are in now,” Christie said during a panel on ABC News moments after Trump’s remarks, noting that the vote count in Pennsylvania will continue for days and “that argument’s for later.”
He continued, “I disagree with what he did tonight. And I think Sarah is right that, you know, there comes a point where you have to let the process play itself out before you judge it to have been flawed. And I think by prematurely doing this, if there is a flaw in it later, he has undercut his own credibility in calling attention to that flaw.”
Christie, who said he was speaking from his experience as a former US attorney, argued that Trump had made a “bad strategic decision” and a “bad political decision.”
“And it's not the kind of decision you would expect someone to make tonight who holds the position he holds,” he added.

Is anyone surprised? He can't help himself..he is a deeply ill psychopathic narcissistic megalomaniac. Apparently that completely evident character doesn't bother half the population. I honestly think people here would support Charles Manson for president so long as he carried the republican torch.yankees60 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 1:33 amTrump just finished speaking. Yes there were several measures on the California ballot promoting the extreme left agenda that went the opposite way. Kind of an odd split, voting for the extreme left at the top of the ballot and leaning right at the bottom. I think that tells us how people would truly vote if they weren't being relentlessly manipulated by the media.MangoMan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 6:50 am In other news, CA Prop 22 passed, which keeps Uber/Lyft /DoorDash, etc drivers as Independent Contractors rather than employees. Sanity prevails. Proof that on occasion, the populace knows what's better for them than them than the people they elected to represent them.
Hmm, I wonder if they could have a Prop to end lockdowns.....![]()
The media concentrates on the Presidential and Senate races, showing their influence there, but they don't spend nearly as much effort trying to influence ballot initiatives. Consider this a way of highlighting the fact that we no longer can claim to have fair elections in this country. It is yet another example on the general theme of Democrats accusing Trump of doing precisely what they do themselves: election interference, via their buddies in the mainstream media plus also social media platforms.
I wonder what the Presidential & Senate results would have looked like if the media were truly impartial. And if Trump wins & the Senate remains Republican, I sincerely hope there will be a spotlight put on this, and perhaps some ground rules instituted by the FCC. For example, if a media outlet can be shown to be biased toward one party (whichever it is), there can be a formula for computing how much of their coverage is effectively a campaign contribution, and appropriate rules will apply.
Re: Election Day/Night Open Thread
Could anyone explain to me why the centre part of the USA is Republican?
Has it always been this way?
