Uncomfortable truths

Post by Mountaineer »

Would it not be a refreshing change to have a politician with balls, whether you agree with the message or not?  Not going to happen, but we can dream.

Ooh, ooh, let me have a go! This sounds like fun.

- Property is a social construct.

- God is a comforting fantasy.

- It is both natural and unavoidable that the strong prey upon the weak.

- Beautiful people have measurable social advantages in every sphere of society.

- Gold has an expected real return of zero over the long haul.

- Anarcho-capitalism is unsuitable for most people and human societies as they actually exist today.

- Socialism rewards mediocrity and tends towards stagnation and oppression.

- Global warming is happening.

- Ending the systematic oppression of the mentally ill caused an explosion of mass shootings.

- Most cities are stressful, expensive money pits.

- I should really be working right now. :)

Post of the month!! That is truly hilarious and refreshingly balanced overall.

But I love small cities. The Minneapolis metro area is great, IMO, as long as you live somewhat close to where you work. There's so much to do and plenty if very country-esque areas within earshot of the metro area. I could see larger metro areas as being far less palatable for people who like metro-diversity (for lack of a better term).

Then again, I hail from Bachmann country (central MN), not the jem that is northern Mn lake country. I could definitely see myself up there.

I liked your last one where you were speaking to yourself!  ;)

May I suggest a few more:

- You are (not?) going to Hell.

- Jesus loves you, I love you, but I don't have to like your sorry ass.

- Man originated from a slime containing asteroid from planet Vulcan, just like vulcanized rubber was a mistake sprung from dropping sulfur on latex sap and thus enabled further evolution to tires, automobiles, highways, mass migration, loss of identity, and spiritual death.

- I'll respect you in the morning.

- I'm here to help you (says the IRS agent).

- On average, half of all people are below average.

- If it were not for bellybuttons, your ass would fall off.

Men and women are different.

Only results matter.

If you keep doing the same thing that has been tried before multiple times and expect different results you should be reading history before trying it again.

If you reward a behavior you will get more of it.

And on the subject of mass shootings, I'll admit I left out two other huge components:
- The prescription and use (often to/by children) of legal and illegal mind-altering drugs on a massive scale,
- The federal gun-free school zone act

The federal government is a smooth running operation that can do most things more effectively and more efficiently than private interprise.  ;)

I have a (serverly misguided) friend who would emphatically say my last post was truth.  Of course, he is a relativist.  ;)

Anyone who is not an anarchist is advocating that the government hold a gun to people's heads to force their will onto them.

Anarcho-capitalists aren't real anarchists.

We could probably debate the latter assertion until we are blue in the face... So we can skip that one for now, but perhaps you care to expand on the first.  I'm trying to pay more attention to my abysmal fantasy football team (strongly recommend AGAINST doing fantasy football), but if you care to open a new thread on the moral/functional implications on differences between the fringes of libertarianism, I'd love to comment when I'm not participating in this abbhoration of sports fanmanship.

Okay, this one's gonna be REALLY un-PC. May the liberal establishment have mercy on my soul...

Detroit is being saved by pricing out all the black people.
http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/ ... ml?hp=pm_1

Alarming statistic from the article: apparently 47 percent of Detroit residents are illiterate. I found this claim so shocking that I had to find supporting evidence, and unfortunately I found it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/0 ... 58307.html

From the report:
The National Institute for Literacy estimates that 47% of adults (more than 200,000 individuals) in the City of Detroit are functionally illiterate, referring to the inability of an individual to use reading, speaking, writing, and computational skills in everyday life situations.
Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ.
I do hope the functionally illerate call on Him too.  "Man" certainly has not saved them.  Sad articles.  Yet another example of what happens when we no longer have a culture that appreciates Christian beliefs or at least adheres to Christian ethics (or any other ethical system that puts love of neighbor on a par with love of self).

Mountaineer, do you mean Dan Gilbert? Do you think once he prices all the black people out, he'll love his neighbors?

Mountaineer,

You think most Christians love their neighbor as much as they love themselves?

Of course not, not one!  We are all sinners.  Only Christ loved us in that manner.  But, it certainly is a great guide by which to live your life.

You did not ask, but I do not believe there is one human alive on this planet that has not broken the Ten Commandments.  If you wish to learn considerably more,

Correct, that is not true. Although of course some left-anarchists would like it to be true.  :P
