"Deflationary Paradox" Long term rates will remain low or lower.
Dr. Hunt is a must read every quarter. Skip to last page for 30-year rate perspective, but entire article is a reminder of big picture. Enjoy.

What do we think about this possibility and how would it, if at all, affect the way the PP uses the long bond portion of the mix?

Re: What is Debt? – An Interview with Economic Anthropologist David Graeber
The only time debt is not a subtle form of slavery is when the debt is self-liquidating--i.e., the borrowed funds create cash flows at least as great as are necessary to service the underlying debt. MT - Even self-liquidating debt can be burdensome. My spouse and I are debt free personally, even ho...

Re: Schools are such a waste of money
We chose to home-school our children. There are as many reasons why parents home school as there are families, but we chose this route primarily because we were not about to abdicate our parental authority to the Imperial US Governmental Education Department. The madness of two parents working all ...

Well thank you Ladies and Gentlemen for your thoughts. It's just that I'm learning the lesson all over again that it is foolish to time the market. Not that primary intention was to try to slide in on the bottom of a correction, but after waiting for a reasonable correction for the better part of 4...

Yesterday's New Contribution Tanking Today
Need some words of encouragement this morning. I did not re-balance yesterday, but I did place some 15k of new cash into VTI. Where else would you have put it? TLT & Gold are rising and I'm already overweight in Cash. Now the market tanks the day after. I hate that feeling. Maybe I alread...

Would rather have 1 year food, $cash and generator at home and not need them, than to need food, cash and heat and not have them. Everyone should be prepared regardless of what this story suggests.

100% physical. A large mayonaise jar will hold more 1 ounce gold coins than any one person needs, or probably can afford. I have a huge fire safe, but the coins are in the dirt outside.

Yes, the Chinese love the Colonel for everyday, but when they dress-up and go out on the town they choose Pizza Hut. PH is very upscale in the Far East. Interesting that MickeyDs is so far behind KFC.MediumTex wrote: Anyone else see that Colonel Sanders is more recognized in China than Chairman Mao?

Paul,
Are you really, really sold on PP for the long term or can you see yourself ever going back to dating the DFA strategy?
Still using the MMM toolbox from time-to-time!

If the yield breaks above that level, I suspect there will be trouble. I also suspect the Fed will draw a line there and do everything it can to contain the situation. Otherwise, things could get out of hand. I like owning gold here. :) KevD - Couple of questions to help me learn: 1. When you sa...

I then total up the current value of the portfolio + my current contribution, in this case it’s $1020, and divide that by four, which is $255 in this case. I then calculate the current balance less this amount. Gold $85 Stocks ($35) Cash $10 Bonds ($70) As a check these amounts plus the current co...

I have square danced with a few brokers. Many were fine gentlemen. The last one told me: "son you are not an investor, you ask too many questions and you have to many of your own ideas". Paying a broker to set-up and manage a PP is like paying someone to change the oil in your 1983 Ford...
