Re: Did Bitcoin Kill Gold’s Monetary Utility?

Interesting perspective. I talked to someone for El Salvador today (where Bitcoin has just become legal tender) and they said people are getting hacked and losing their Bitcoin. I did get a chance to dig into details but getting hacked could become a serious problem if more of the general populatio...

I’d like to see the unvaccinated peasants storm the castle somewhere. And not the selfie taking kind of January 6 in Washington. The kind with pitchforks.

Sheesh.... Did they make the announcement with a translator so non-Quebecans could understand, as per our "Great Leaders" example. ;D https://www.rebelnews.com/wa_premier_deploys_indigenous_aide_to_translate_english_into_english?utm_campaign=ay_wapremier_011222&utm_medium=email&utm_source=therebel ...

HB liked growth stocks specifically, because of how they are bid up during bull markets.
How would you define growth stocks?
I think he meant the typical definition, the higher P/E types, not value stocks that one might feel are poised to grow.

Re: Very good Cullen Roche post on the current bond situation

If one wants to hold a PP or PP variant, then they have to believe in the basic philosophy behind holding such a portfolio. Holding Bonds that aren't Sovereign & aren't Long Duration is antithetical to the basic philosophy. Most Folks aren't suited to holding a PP or variant thereof IMHO. Most "inv...

Bitcoin question (How did FBI recover some pipeline ransom)

Remember when the Colonial Pipeline or some other important company paid a ransom in Bitcoin, and soon it was announced that the FBI or some other agency got a lot of it back?

How did they do that? Isn’t Bitcoin impenetrable?

One of the main points of GOLD ownership is no counter party risk. I feel stupid enough holding regular paper gold ETF's.

Re: 2022 PP predictions

I've been investing since the early 80s, so I've had a 40 year bull market in stocks and bonds. The various drawdowns turned out to be noise. I would like to think my good returns over those 40 years were because I'm so smart. But let's face it, it has been a great era for investing, at least in the...

BTW one of us has an IRA holding Wellesley. That fund's 1,3,5, & 10 year numbers are similar to our PP's numbers. Whether or not it is as robust as the PP, that's the question.

Re: 2021 PP Returns

I have a PP that I've allowed to run without rebalancing since ~2009. Last I checked: Stocks 45% (including a large dose of non-US, someday that ship will come in! LOL) LT Bonds 20% Cash & equiv. 23% Gold 12% So yes, it's out of whack as a PP at this point. This is the year that the stocks and gold ...

Re: Fleeing the Blue States

There are more republicans in California than in Arkansas. Well, I made that up but I bet it’s right. Maybe in raw numbers, but certainly not as a percent of total state population. It's no sure thing that the Californians who are leaving are Democrats. It'd be cool to see a study. They did one in ...

I am on the opposite end: In Red Texas being overrun by Californians. I work from home so I don't have to drive too far away on a daily basis. I might drive for 10 mins a day and travel within a 3 mile radius. But yet there is not a day that goes by that I do not see multiple California license pla...

Pug's point, WSJ: https://outline.com/aHxbYM And knowing this, the idiots in charge continue to double down on policies that encourage fleeing. And they keep getting reelected. Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Looks like we dodged the virus. We both tested negative. The younger couple, the sick one is a lot better and the spouse and child never got it. We were kind of hoping for positive on our tests, given that we didn't have symptoms. I'm looking forward to seeing the light at the end of the pandemic tu...

Thanks. So far, nothing to report. If it's Omicron, it should show up today or tomorrow. Delta is slower. Hoping it's nothing, of course. I always have a tough time with respiratory viruses.
