the US has averaged 5% inflation per year, since about 1970
if you don't CLEAR 8% or better, every year, after tax and Social security (if you don't use a corporation to invest) with all your investments, you'd be ahead to just sit on bullion gold coins. Sometimes gold lags the market, and then there's a BIG leap in gold's price. many very experienced trader...

Re: Is gold actually an inflation hedge? Does it need to be?
Several traders who OUGHT to know say to stay out of stocks except in a bull market. the rest of the time, you want to be in bullion gold coins, cause the market is just too volatile. Me, I don't see a bull market coming for a while. While I have some gold coins, my main income stream is from rental...

Re: How Not to Get Ripped Off, part 2
American Survival Guide magazine used to run ads for a little plate with slots the right size in it for different coins. weigh the coin, and try it in the go-no go slots, and if it passes those tests, it's good enough to take, cause it's going to be tradable to the next guy. so who cares if it's a re...

Re: Jim Sinclair's take on FDR's gold confiscation
gold won't be worth a thing if the dollar collapses, not for A YEAR or more, while 90-99% of the US population dies of thirst, hunger, diseases, fire and infighting. The only things of value, nobody is going to be trading during that year, because any sort of contact is going to be extremely dange...

Re: Early Retirement Extreme progress
yes, I have done it once, and am working on the other house now. :-) Once I have the second one going, my Filipina and I are going to bum around the US for a year or 2, in a small trailer and a van. The big issues are insurance, against fire and vandalism, throwing out the offenders (whores, drunks...

Re: Early Retirement Extreme progress
so who says that you have to stay in SF, or even in CA, for that matter? Certainly, there's places to be had. Gypsies and carnies still raise families in small trailers. So you need 2 of them, or a larger one, so what? U needn't live like that forever. If you can amass 70k, you can RETIRE in a coupl...

Re: Why are there so few doctors?
we could allow MANY thousands of them to immigrate, but our "policy" is to not let in such highly skilled people, as it lowers the ridiculous salaries charged by those already here. Many of the MD's from overseas are AT LEAST as "qualified" as many here, whom the OTHER MD';s know...

Re: Hungary is selling passports
I was told, about 30 years ago, from a very reliable source, that any country accepts you as a citizen, if you can establish that your grandparents were citizens of that country, and all that took was a bit of cash to a couple of "upstanding citizens" who claim to have known your grandpar...

Re: Early Retirement Extreme progress
Do you have any other utility bills? No gas, water, sewage, garbage? That rent is killing you, pard. I'd put a small trailer in a friend's backyard, pasture, etc, and pay $200 a month, most places in the US. That's 15k a year that you could be putting into something that MAKES money.
