Their passports work anywhere in the EU. I think Cyprus is doing something similar.

Interesting! I'm of Hungarian extraction, but if I have to invest $322K, I'd rather buy New Zealand citizenship (even if it costs more). Seems more pleasant than Hungary.

Not exactly, no. But, my guide there (a native, lifelong resident, and pro from National Geographic tours) said that you can immigrate for retirement if the price is right. Or if you have certain skills, e.g. you're a physician. To me, that's more tempting than an EU-friendly passport at this stage in life.Ad Orientem wrote: Is New Zealand doing the same thing?

I was told, about 30 years ago, from a very reliable source, that any country accepts you as a citizen, if you can establish that your grandparents were citizens of that country, and all that took was a bit of cash to a couple of "upstanding citizens" who claim to have known your grandparents. :-)

You were misinformed. Only a very few countries have or have had such such policies.swank wrote: I was told, about 30 years ago, from a very reliable source, that any country accepts you as a citizen, if you can establish that your grandparents were citizens of that country, and all that took was a bit of cash to a couple of "upstanding citizens" who claim to have known your grandparents. :-)
