It's illegal to offend someone!

Campus cop says offending people is illegal and the first amendment doesn't matter:

Would that mean that the police officer could be arrested if I found his remarks offensive?

That would be cool.

Alas, this is where we're headed.

Apparently, at my university, if a student hears faculty member A criticizing faculty member B, it's grounds for disciplinary action and possible dismissal of faculty member A.

Also, if you swear in front of a student, the student can lodge a complaint resulting in same.  Something about an environment not conducive to learning.  Imagine trying to legislate against swearing in NYC!!!

It's fortunate that most students have more sense than this, or half of us would have been shown the door by now, and there'd be no one left to do the teaching.

That is really bizarre. How long has it been that way?

It's been brewing for a while but it's gaining serious traction lately.

The key word here is "microaggression".

Here's some good/varied reading on the topic (skip to the PDF at the end if you want the 10,000 ft overview without any varnish).

Drewskers, that was microagressive and offensive. I'm doing a citizen's arrest!

I think that there might have been some microinequities in there as well, so I'm glad to see someone willing to stand up to such outrageousness.

Microagressions should be policed by 3 inch tall humans.
Is that a microcomplaint?
