Is there a Health Savings Account available to an individual for PP?

Post by ochotona »

I recently lost my job.  :'(  Oil industry, Texas, I still need to shelter income for tax year 2015, the severance was pretty large (I'm not totally unhappy... technically, I could retire. But of course, I won't at my age).

So, I'm looking for a low-cost financial institution I could access as an individual, no longer in a group health plan, with choices for PP relevant ETFs. The low-cost point is very important, as well all know.

Any ideas?

The last I shopped around for HSA's, HSA Bank appeared to be the best option.

Yep, I moved my HSA to HSA Bank a few years ago. It's probably the best provider at this time.

I only buy Treasury ETFs in my HSA to avoid paying state tax on the earnings (greedy Golden State doesn't comply with the federal law).

I'm sorry about your job, ochotona. Yes, the oil industry was hit hard by the oil price drop.

As to opening an HSA, make sure you get an HDHP policy when you shop for insurance so you meet the IRS eligibility requirements for contributing to HSA.
