Fred's Ocular Mishap

I'm a big fan of Fred's and that's very sad to hear.

He lost the other eye in Vietnam.

The surgeon has excellent credentials and training. Just to play devil's advocate, isn't it possible that an unforeseen complication developed beyond the doctor's full control and the adverse outcome was not necessarily his fault? Why does everyone, Fred included, immediately jump to the conclusion that there was malpractice involved?

Certainly, Fred deserves sympathy regardless.

Who is everyone, because so far I merely see regret expressed, not blame.
Anyway, you're right that it could be an extraneous factor and something that could not be helped, but the doctor's refusal to keep correspondence is troubling.

Not my area of expertise, so I have no idea if there really was malpractice, but from the way Fred tells it, it is pretty clear why he thinks so.

Btw, is it possible that this is the same eye that was hurt in Vietnam? All the dates are 2010, and it appears that he is bringing this up now because the lawsuit has been filed. If it is not the Vietnam eye, then he has been blind for some 4 years now, right?
