AETNA CEO with some alarming comments on Obamacare

Post by clacy »

It's starting to look like the only thing that will save the health insurers is a massive bailout.

The AETNA CEO has recently said some pretty disturbing things about how fundamentally flawed the exchange system and demographics of people seeking insurance has become.  He said that insurers may be forced to get out of the exchange market completely or double rates for 2015.

There is no "back end" to the ACA website, so it's chaos at the insurance companies.  Their revenue is plummeting and there is no groundswell of new people entering the insurance market.  Only 11% of those signing up so far, were without health insurance previously.

One of the R's, perhaps Rubio (Ryan?) has been talking about this.  The bailout is a built in feature of Obamacare i.e. they planned for this possibility.

By any means necessary.  For everyone's good.

Just got back from a retirement party for two married coworkers.

They told me they immediately signed up for Obamacare upon leaving the company last week.

They are both 60 with health issues.

They signed up because not only do they get a low rate due to age than they otherwise should...they also qualified for subsidies. They will probably get 5k-10k more in benefits than they pay in premiums this year.

How many young people have to sign up, pay premiums and not use any heath care to cover that welfare scheme?

This is not happening and this was so obvious from the time the ink hit the paper. If you think the government didn't lie to you on this one you must think they are just extremely dumb. Maybe its a combo.....50% liars and 50% idiots.

Perhaps we'll have a single payer system sooner than we thought.

:( I thought it would take Obamacare 3-5 years to destroy the insurance industry, it now looks like it will take less than 2!

He will probably do all of his single-payer dirty work right after the 2014 election, when he won't care at all about the lies that he told to the American people.

Probably correct.  However, it is hard for me to "blame" obama or the con-gress or the SCROTUMS ... seems to me the bigger issue rests with the gullible lemmings who allow them to remain in power.

Those gullible lemmings are the voters. Whatever 50.1% of the voters decide is obviously correct and we need to get behind it. If it doesn't work out we just need to have faith that in the next election 50.1% will be smart enough to realize that. If that doesn't work then we can try again in the next election. Eventually we'll get the Hopey Changey we're looking for.

Hasn't some of the been going on for a while?

Health coverage is expanding, just in time for boomers.
usnews wrote:Medicare prescription coverage was expanded to 40 million new recipients under the George W. Bush administration. Medicare officials say this will add $1 trillion in benefits. And the Obama administration adds affordable health care for millions of uninsured people. The total cost, and who pays what, remains unclear. More low-income people will be eligible for low-cost coverage, though upper-income people might end up paying more.
