Physical Gold Price on Yahoo Finance?

Post by Jake »

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the current price of physical gold bars expressed in GBP per kg on Yahoo Finance?

I'm using the iBank personal finance app (for mac), which will automatically downloads stock quotes but only if it can search Yahoo symbol lookup with http://finance.yahoo.com/lookup. I've got it updating most of my portfolio values automatically, which is really handy. I'd love to get gold updated automatically too.  Seems crazy that they won't let you point to any data source, but given this constraint I am just wondering if there is a code for the market price of physical gold or some kind of workaround. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I don't know how to get the price of bars, nor any price in GBP, but there is the code GCZ13.CMX.
Maybe you can convert from that?

You can get a realtime price in $US/oz at the link below, although they don't seem to have GBP/kg:

Thanks so much for all the helpful suggestions guys! Somehow I missed the fact that there had been responses on this thread until now.

CA PP, your suggestion gets the quote perfectly from Yahoo and I thought all I would need to do is convert my holdings to ounces for iBank to update. However, iBank won't update with that code. They are vague about it but it seems they arbitrarily won't support precious metals updates from yahoo, even if you have the code. Ah well, I don't check my portfolio that often anyway so I can just manually update when I do.

If anyone has had better experiences with a different personal finance app for Mac, please let me know!
