The New York Tribune Online

Post by Ad Orientem »

The full run of the New York Tribune from 1866-1922 is online. It's like stepping back in time reading about the great (and minor) issues of another era. Seeing what people were getting worked up over in those days gives me some perspective on our own age. In one issue, restrictions on child labor were heatedly denounced by some pols as socialism and the end of the American Republic. I think that was somewhere in 1903.

The financial pages are fun to look at. Most of the stocks listed are no longer around. But it does make me wish I had access to a time machine hehehe. The best though are the advertisements. The insane things people bought and sold are mind boggling. I particularly enjoy all of the medical quackery being advertised back when there was no governmental regulation. And then there was the add in early April 1912 announcing ticket sales for the first eastbound crossing of the brand new ocean liner Titanic due to leave New York on April 20th. I am guessing refunds were issued.

Trumpism is not a philosophy or a movement. It's a cult.
