Wouldn't that make gold supplies tighter, which could cause the price to begin rising?

Isn't that how supply and demand works?

What do they do when they stop producing?  Do they lay off the producers and pay a small staff, or do they liquidate/merge?

I would assume that many stop producing when they run out of money and/or credit.  In that case they probably just get what they can for their assets.  I assume that in most cases their equity would be worthless once they ran out of money and couldn't get any more credit.

I sure hope that this doesn't happen to Parker Schnabel (my favorite goldminer).
