Is It Time To Walk Away In May?

Post by Reub »

The old stock market adage of "walk away in May" has proven to be correct for the past 3 consecutive years. Will this be the fourth year where it paid to lighten one's stock market load in May?

Oh, what's politics got to do, got to do with it!

Reub,

Were you around in 1981 when Reagan fired 11,000 air traffic controllers?

Assuming you were interested in that event at the time, what did you think about it?

What I always found sort of bizarre was that Reagan was the former president of his own trade union, and it seemed odd that he would be so heavy handed with another union based on a two day strike, and when there were so many public safety issues involved with taking the approach he took.

I always wondered what Reagan would have done when he was the president of the Screen Actors Guild if Hollywood producers had fired all of the actors based on a two day strike.

OTOH, I guess that Reagan's action paved the way for a whole lot of air traffic controller careers that never would have happened had the strikers not been fired, right?

Sorry for an on topic post, but http://m.seekingalpha.com/article/1396581

Seems like a few reasonable strategies without going overboard - rebalance in May / Oct, ...

Probably minor in the long term, but for folks who do annual rebalancing, why not on May Day vs New Year's Day?
