Re: Motif Investing
I was looking at this recently. For $9.95 you can get up to 30 stocks at once. If you can replicate roughly the S&P (or your favorite index), you could save a reasonable amount of money by not having to pay the expense ratio charge. For larger portfolios this could be significant.

Re: Motif Investing
Interesting idea. So the PP motif could be a bond, gold, and cash ETF; plus the largest 27 companies in the TSM.

Greg:
I wonder if you have had experience using your idea - I am particularly concerned about the execution you get. If the spread is bad the amount you save in commission may not be worthwhile, especially with fewer stocks and fewer transactions.

Re: Motif Investing
I haven't actually done any business with Motif. I was just saying it might work well if you said there were 30 companies that you liked. Rather than paying commission to buy each one every time (at maybe $7 a pop for 30 companies is $210 each time you'd want to add to every holding) you could pay $9.95 and do it to all of them all at once.
