X-Events

Post by dualstow »

Has anyone ever heard of the book X-Events by John Casti? The subtitle is Complexity Overload and the Collapse of Everything.
As the author says in the preface, it's not meant to be a fear-mongering work, but just an overview of things that could happen. Natural disasters, financial collapse, revolutions, and viruses... Seems like something the permanent portfolio crowd might be into.

Not such glowing reviews at Amazon, but then again there are only 8 reviews. I think the main criticism is that it's not in-depth. I checked it out at a bookstore cafe this evening and found it quite interesting.

Was it in the doomer porn section of the book store?
Q: “Do you have funny shaped balloons?”
A: “Not unless round is funny.”

Could have been. :-) I am still more disturbed by the fact that my Barnes & Noble has a section called "Paranormal Teen Romance."
But again, the author takes pains in the preface to argue that he is not a gloom-and-doomer.
