Nabbed, thanks! I'm hoping Australian cattle dogs feature prominently. What other dog can you envision at Mel Gibson's side in the post-apocalypse? I actually have an ACD myself, though I'll admit she's not very well-trained.  :-[

Do you cover Nigerian guard dogs in the book?

Yes... how could I not include Mad Max's dog in a book like that?

It's a great breed.  I like 'em, a lot and may even get one in the future, as a demo dog.  Although you do need to be careful, as shyness and fear aggression (both faults) are common in many, so pick carefully.  (The book gives you some temperament tests to use).

I've got a Belgian Malinois puppy, now.  And I regret it.  Great for training and dog sports, terrible as a house pet.  Wound tight like a coiled spring, with two speeds: On or off.

Here's what you need, Tex:  A Texas-sized guard dog...

The best dog I ever had was a male half boxer/half pit bull.  He was cool as ice, friendly, enjoyed being around people, noble temperament, but if you got a game of tug of war going with him with a towel or thick rope it felt like there was a great white shark on the other end.  He weighed about 55 lbs.  Amazing animal.

Another great dog was a female half Rhodesian Ridgeback/half fence climber.  She was very gentle, intelligent, barked at the right times and generally cooperated with whatever we needed her to do.  She was about 60 lbs.  Great dog.

I miss them both.  I lost the first one in 1997 and the second one in 2010.

;)  You got it!

I had a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Pit Bull mix that was my favorite dog of all time.  My ex-wife got him, in the divorce.  Back in Texas.  LOL.  I still miss that dog, and I've had about 14 dogs, since.  (When I'm in-between dogs, I rescue dogs, train them and then place them with families... until I find one I really like).
