I would split the TSP in some way between the G and C fund. Use your vanguard fund (the tax advantaged one) for LTT's, and then with whatever is left buy gold in some form.
The G-fund is great for cash. You get a fund that holds short-term treasuries that pays intermediate-treasury yield.

Hi Lerxst and welcome to the forum.
To me the HBPP is more than just an investment strategy. It incorporates a way of looking at life. If that piece does not resonate with you, then perhaps using the PP mutual funds (PRPFX or PERM) will provide the asset allocation you are looking for without all of the complexity of a traditional HBPP. Just keep in mind that regularly changing your asset allocation can significantly eat into your profits.
Perhaps experimenting with a small portion of your assets will help clarify your strategy.

I use the G Fund as my Cash portion, and an 80/20 blend of the C and S as the Total stock market portion. I then use ETFs in a ROTH for the rest (TLT and IAU, mostly).
