Who Else Besides Vanguard?
I opened up an account with Vanguard earlier this year, to diversify. Hate 'em. User interface is not very intuitive. Customer support takes 10 minutes to pick up, and the people who do pickup really aren't very knowledgeable about how their system works, either. (Basic stuff, too.)
I really like Schwab, but like I said: I want to diversify. So... who besides Vanguard do you like?

Many people seem to like Fidelity.
I think they are the biggest fund company.

I'm a big fan of TDAmeritrade. They offer three out of the four ETFs I use for one of my PPs commission-free!

I use TD Ameritrade and Schwab. No complaints about either but I prefer TDA.

Fidelity, hands down.
I need to diversify too but it's hard to move away from Fidelity where it is so easy to move assets between accounts and also I'll hate to give up the one-click schedule D preparation they now offer with my tax preparation software. I've used T. Rowe price and Wells Fargo in the past and don't recommend either.

I almost started using Fidelity recently, but then noticed that many of their "secure" HTTPS pages mix insecure content with them, taking away my browser padlock. That gave me a sour taste.

I suppose all brokerage houses have their pros and cons. I love Vanguard and it was with reluctance that I opened a second account at Fidelity. Over the past 3 years, I have come to love Fidelity, too. And, since I live in the heart of a big city I can walk to their office if I need a face-to-face.

Wow, SHY, TLT and VTI all commission free! But don't make the mistake I have done. Turns out you do not get commission free trades unless you specifically sign up for this service. Easy to do online.Pointedstick wrote: I'm a big fan of TDAmeritrade. They offer three out of the four ETFs I use for one of my PPs commission-free!

EDV too, if that's your thing. It is indeed slightly annoying that they make you sign up for commission-free ETFs, but it's easy enough to do. While we're on the subjects of mistakes not to make, don't sell any of the commission-free ETFs within 60 days of buying or you'll get hit with a $20 penalty fee!BearBones wrote:Wow, SHY, TLT and VTI all commission free!
