Anyone try this before?
Basically, you sleep 20-30 minutes every 4-6 hours instead of 6-8 hours at once at night. Alternatively, you could sleep 2-4 hours at night in addition to 20 minute naps every 6 hours.
I did this for about a year in college when I was doing a particularly difficult courseload. I seemed to have similar alertness as if I were sleeping 7 hours a night (but with half the actual amount.) Then suddenly one year later, it seemed my body started to demand more sleep and I slept 10+ hours a day for a week. I could not get myself back onto the Polyphasic schedule again ever since.
I hear this regimen is required in certain divisions in the US Army though..

There were a number of people (not I) on the old mind and muscle forum who tried this and there were a number of threads. You could try to see if the mindandmuscle (dot.net I think) forum still exists and if so their search engine might have the old threads. ALternatively google sometimes has stored old threads from boards that no longer are active. not great odds, but probably worth a shot.

I was in the Army, and I don't think polyphasic sleeping is an official position, you just kind of sleep when you can get it. Eventually you can just get used to it.blackomen wrote: Anyone try this before?
