Anyone do this actively? I am thinking of getting my feet wet for shits and giggles. Akin to forex, I think the vast majority of bookies are bucket shops. The regulation needs to be tighter before I would considering doing it seriously. Some day it will become legal to sports bet in the USA and by then it would be likely too late to have the infrastructure and experience in place.

Re: Sports Arbitrage Betting
I spent some time a few years ago doing research with fairly sophisticated gamblers.
As I recall even a few years ago simple arbitrage between different markets on the same event and between brokers on the same market was (ro)bot'd beyond the point where human beings could profit.
More complex / niche arbitrage was still possible. I recall one person I met exploiting the bias of a nation to favor it's team in an international event by arbing across brokers in different countries. It was eye opening to watch someone make quite a reasonable living (tax free in the UK) for a couple of hours work a week.
Although you can probably view most sites you'll not be able to fund an account anywhere reputable from a US bank account. The irony given HSBC's behaviour is to be savoured.

Could someone explain what the heck fantasy sports leagues are as compared to sports betting? Is that the same thing as those betting pools on sports outcomes that go around in the workplace?
