Billionaires’ Tax Sought by UN to Fund Programs for Poor

Post by MachineGhost »

The United Nations, faced with a dearth of donors, pitched a tax on billionaires to help raise money for development projects in the world’s poorest nations.

Placing a 1 percent levy on “individual wealth holdings”? of at least $1 billion could raise as much as $50 billion, according to the UN’s World Economic and Social Survey published today.

The UN needs to figure out how to get rid of kleptocrats in those poor countries, a major contribution to poverty in their own nations.  That would reduce the need to tax "billionaires."

Here's a thought.  What if those billionaires are the kleptocrats?

Corrupt heads of state rarely acquiesce to taxation so easily.
Human behavior is economic behavior. The particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant.

Or trying to get politicians to relinquish their power, it just doesn't happen. It'd just be a difficult task to pass me thinks. But maybe they'd be able to spin it so they'd be stupid not to do it!
