I saw this film with my sons and I thought it was very entertaining.
It looks like the media is really getting behind this "biggest flop ever" narrative, which is a shame because I thought it was great. It's certainly not a bad movie (IMHO).
I would say it was about as entertaining as "Prince of Persia", which I also enjoyed.
Anyone else seen it?

Nope, I hadn't even heard of it -- probably why the movie is bombing. Although the trailer looks badass, could be a fun popcorn movie.

Re: Has anyone seen John Carter?
saw it in 3D last monday - conned my men's team into going - total fun!
I was a little bit surprised that it's box office returns on the first weekend were not all that good.
I liked prince of persia as well. Also enjoyed Thor...but I guess that is not a disney flick. I have also been enjoying some of the chinese kung fu movies....loved the remake of Karate Kid and also thought Ip Man and Ipman 2 were just great. Also enjoyed Forbidden Kingdom I think the only movie I have seen with Jackie Chan and Jet Li in it. Having practiced Qi Qong - hard style - there is a certain richness in the Chinese tradition that somehow gets communicated in these movies.
Also loved reading the abridged version of the Ramyana. Just magical. There I go rambling again ;)

I haven't seen John Carter, although I am intrigued by the story line and character that was originally created by Edgar Rice Burroughs. I did see Prince of Persia on TV and I found it nicely entertaining. Some critics will get a burr up their butts about certain movies and give a pass or highest praise to some films I find godawful and pretentious. A perfect example of the latter two qualities for me would be Tree of Life by director Terrence Malick. My girlfriend and I went to see it because of the consensus of high ratings by critics. Some people were leaving the theater around us, after about 40 minutes, and we didn't take the hint thinking it would have to get better. It wouldn't get any better- almost 3 hours of "art house" film torture.
We did see a sweet little film last week that I would like to recommend: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen with a nicely soulful Emily Blunt (really, what's not to like!), Ewan McGregor, who's really good and Kristin Scott Thomas, who's very funny. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1441952/ check it out.

The wife and I saw 'Iron Lady' last week which has all the violence of 'John Carter' and a Sex Pistols-like song blasting during said violence.
I plan to see 'John Carter' this coming week. I just like the idea that it was written by the 'Tarzan' guy.
