If

Post by yankees60 »

If one knew nothing prior to this last hour .... they'd be voting for Trump. Trump is destroying Biden, who seemingly cannot finish a thought or a sentence.

It's a disgrace for our country that these are the candidates that most people will be voting for. Both parties with all their supporters for each candidate are complicit.

The cabinet should immediately be starting the process to remove Biden as president as soon as possible.

I won’t be voting for either of these two clowns. Trump had his chance to drain the swamp.

Now hold on, Smithers. Don’t sell him short just yet. Maybe he identifies as a black woman.

"Constantly choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil."

When you vote for the lesser of two evils, you are complicit. Vote for someone good this time around (even if it is doubtful they'll win), and maybe we'll get better choices next time around. We're not voting to win, we're voting for the best commander in chief.

That's my position.

Last time I voted for Tulsi Gabbard.

If it's these two unsuited for presidents on the ballot then it is going to be Michigan's Secretary of State, a serious government person. I may be the only vote she gets!

I think I disagree with Jerry Garcia. I believe in compromise. I vote for someone who might win no matter how distastful the choices are.

This was often my avatar here in the early 2010s, except it was an earlier date of course.

Also: isn’t one man’s evil candidate another man’s good candidate? If not, isn’t it still slippery like ESG investing?
(And this time I’ll bother to type out: you might be tempted to reply, “This post isn’t addressed to those who already think they’re voting for someone good. It’s for those who’re capitulating and voting for a lesser evil.” If that is the case — it might not be— then ok, fair enough).

For years the Trump followers have been accused of being a cult.

Now with all these Biden revelations (that were never legitimately investigated in the past, i.e., the Hur interviews should have been released) I now see that the Democratic party is also a cult, though at least there are many people in it ARE questioning if Biden should still be running.

My full belief is that not only should he no longer be running but he either needs to resign or be removed IMMEDIATELY.

To get back to your point.

I don't think anyone can cite any other time in history when such a high percentage of the voters were dissatisfied with BOTH of the candidates.

I refuse to vote for either of them. I cannot support either one of them who has no business being president.

My idealism and sometimes being a purist does not allow me to do so.

I need to enthusiastically vote for my candidate.

All the Democrat adherents can bleat as much as they want that I need to vote for Biden because otherwise we get Trump again. Completely falls on deaf ears to me. If you want me to vote for the Democratic candidate then put someone in there who I can vote for. I've voted for the Democratic Presidential candidate every time from the first time I voted in 1972 through 2016.

That stopped in 2020 when the Democrats put up Biden, who I've held in great disdain ever since he revealed the true person he is during the Clarence Thomas hearings, nearly 35+ years ago. My opinion of him in the intervening years has only gone downhill of him since. HIs behavior over the last two weeks has brought my opinion to him to new lows.

He is presently an incompetent, delusional, selfish person putting his ego above the country's interest. He should not be running or continuing to be president. Just as I have held all of Trump's enablers in great disdain I hold all Biden's enablers to the same disdain. All they are ALL interested in is their person being in power and whatever that accrues to them.

I will still vote.

2020 was Tulsi Gabbard.

This time, unless the Democrats change their candidate, I will vote for the Michigan Secretary of State. I cannot even tell you her name but at least she's a serious government person. I'm sure I will be the only vote she gets! But at least I'll be voting for someone who I have confidence who has qualifications and will take the job seriously.

A protest vote to any of the non-major-two is far better than not voting, IMHO.

Vinny, how do you know anything about the Michigan secretary of state?

PredictIt.org currently gives Tulsi Gabbard a 7% chance of being Trump's VP pick. So maybe you'll get a chance to vote for her again.

I twice watched a long (75 minute) interview with her (Michigan Secretary of State) on C-Span. Young, intelligent, serious. Hard worker.

Also, twice listened to the long (1.5 hours) Lex Fridman interview with Tulsi Gabbard from a few months ago. She's not the same person I voted for.
Now have a much lower opinion of her integrity.

Chuck Todd: A Senior Biden Cabinet Secretary Told Me Two Years Ago, "He Can't Run Again Like This"
Posted By Tim Hains
On Date July 10, 2024
NBC chief political analyst Chuck Todd said Tuesday on his podcast that he sees "no evidence [President Biden] can serve four more years."

He also said that a "senior cabinet member" told him two years ago that they don't think Biden can continue as president.

"This is irresponsible, there is no evidence he can serve four years," Chuck Todd said."This White House had to, they had to drag it out of him that they've had this neurological test... They have no credibility left on this topic."

Also on Tuesday, ABC's George Stephanopoulos told TMZ that he doesn't believe President Biden can serve another term, while Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told a Congressional hearing that members of the cabinet have not discussed the option of the 25th Amendment about President Biden.

CHUCK TODD: I'm not gonna out the cabinet secretary, right? But I had a cabinet secretary two years ago, all out of the blue ask me, "Do you really think he's gonna, he can't run again like this?"

And I said, "Well, you have more interaction with him than I do."

And they said, "I don't have a lot of interaction with him."

This is a pretty senior cabinet secretary. And this was two years ago.

This is one of those, you know, it's the classic open secrets, a non-versation, right? It's the story everybody knows and no one was, everybody was afraid to talk about.

...

But guess what, Democrats are no better here. They are no better on this front because it, it, it looks like they're putting essentially party over country -- and for what? They cannot, I mean, there is no evidence, this is irresponsible, there is no evidence he can serve four years.

There is no evidence he can serve four years and the fact that they have to drag -- this White House had to, they had to drag it out of him that they've had this neurological test. If he had it, he should have been at the Stephanopoulos interview, "Here you go, George, here it is. Here it is. I know people have been asking for it. Look, I did it in February. It's clear, you know, it's all fine. Here it is."

But now you have to wait till the New York Times goes to the visitor logs, finds eight visits! No, it wasn't eight. It's just been three with Biden. But don't worry, all is good.

They have no credibility left on this topic. None.

This must have been what I twice listened to. An hour and 16 minutes.

https://www.c-span.org/video/?532659-1/ ... -democracy

JANUARY 4, 2024
Michigan Secretary of State Benson on Protecting Democracy
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) discussed her career, democracy, and election integrity during the Association of American Law Schools' annual meeting in Washington, DC. Several topics were addressed, including countering misinformation and disinformation, the impact of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, protecting democracy, and her previous role as dean of Wayne State University Law School in Detroit. Also touched on was the Fourteenth Amendment and whether former President Trump can appear on the 2024 election ballot.

By ‘better’, do you mean more moral on an individual level or do you also mean leading to a better (I guess long-term) outcome for the country?

I mean that it expresses dissatisfaction with the main two options more forcefully than does not voting. So I suppose that's a better long-term outcome for the country. Well, at least it's more in line with the long-term effect you're looking to have.

The reason I asked is because I have a relative who was very anti-Bush but who voted for Ralph Nader in the 2000 election. And I always think, How did that work out for you.

If every voter could be swayed to think along the lines of Jack, Vinny- er, Yankees60, and you, then we would see real change. My predilection for compromise could be called cynical with shades of The Prisoner’s Dilemma and self-fulfilling prophecies. But, I’m concerned about outcome above all. Perhaps I’m thinking too short-term.

His situation would seem to be different from yours. You said you were thinking you'd just not vote because you hate both choices. (More than fair in the current climate!) In that case, you might as well cast a 3rd party vote which clearly says you were not satisfied with the major options.

Your relative was anti-Bush, so it probably would have been more rational for him to cast his vote in the manner most likely to defeat Bush, which would have been Gore. That isn't your situation, unless I'm misreading it.
