50 years ago I was hospitalized twice for a few days for diagnostic tests.
The first time the food was tremendous! It was so good that I ordered practically everything on the "menu". I still remember one nurse walking into the room and being overwhelmed at how much food was on my tray.
My expectations had now been set quite high which led me into thinking that my second time food experience would be a repetition of my first hospital food experience. Different hospital and it was as you intimated above. Big-time disappointment for the 20 year old me.

I think that would have basically been my response from the second experience. But decidedly NOT the first.
