Last year I bought a number of $20 Liberty coins at spot then a few weeks ago, turned them in to the Texas Bullion Depository. One of the coins was returned to me because it didn't meet their purity standards. Supposedly some coins minted in the 1800's may not have the correct gold percentage. I got the coin back a few days ago and its the same same weight and dimensions as all the other $20 Liberty coins I have.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Perhaps something to keep in mind when buying coins.

It would be interesting to know how they test these coins for purity. I believe there are several methods and they're not accurate all the time.
