Thoughts on my ETF Fund Choices for PP?

Post by dlauth »

Using the following ETFs for my PP:

IAU- Gold
VTI- Stocks
VGLT- LT Bonds
VMMXX- Cash

All ETFs are traded free except for IAU( $7 )

I choose to stick with the VMMXX since it wouldn't require me to sell another fund to repurchase other assets and run into issues with putting money back into VMMXX. ( Short term trading fees? )

Looks pretty good. The only thing that gives me pause is that you have all your assets at Vanguard and iShares. You might consider adding at least one more fund sponsor to the mix for diversification purpose.

I agree with Kevin. Schwab runs a short term treasury etf, SCHO. It trades commission free at schwabs brokerage. If liquidity is an issue maybe put 20-50% in SCHO and leave the rest in your money market account?

On the other hand, I think that having assets with two sponsors is way better than having all your money at one shop. I would be able to sleep at night using the setup you have. So don't  worry too much.
You know how I feel about handouts...cash is much more flexible, hell, cash is king!
