I prefer to find a trusted local coin dealer. This seems to be the most convenient method as coin dealers are well aware of various products and will mark up the least over spot (in my experience). One thing to watch is the coin dealers will sometimes push the numismatic or less pure metal products as they can charge a larger mark up.

Scotia Mocatta is probably the largest dealer from a bank perspective but the prices aren't the best and buying is hugely inconvenient. You have to go into a branch, the tellers who aren't used to filling in the paperwork have to fill in a ton of forms, then you have to go back in and wait for them to find the paperwork and get out of the vault - plus everyone thinks you are a weirdo buying gold coins  and taking up so much time at the teller.

Buying from the mint directly is also a decent option but I've never used them because they are not local.

Another reason for local coin dealer is you can buy cash and is not traceable like the mint or bank. If you do think there is a slim but potential chance of a SHTF scenario, I kind of like the idea of being an anonymous buyer of these products.

Provident Precious Metals and APMEX both ship to Canada so I'd check them out first.
