MtGox has done this before.  Luckily, there are a couple dozen other bitcoin marketplaces, such as bitstamp.  I hope the price stays low for a few more weeks, so I can get a discount on my monthly purchase of a small amount of bitcoin.

Bitstamp is probably the better marketplace for exchanging USD for BTC.  Here's the price chart for bitstamp:
