Death By Medicine

Post by Reub »

"This fully referenced report shows the number of people having in-hospital, adverse reactions to prescribed drugs to be 2.2 million annually. The number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed for viral infections is 20 million per year. The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed is 7.5 million per year. The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization is 8.9 million per year.

The most stunning statistic, however, is that the total number of deaths caused by conventional medicine is nearly 800,000 per year. It is now evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the US. By contrast, the number of deaths attributable to heart disease in 2001 was 699,697, while the number of deaths attributable to cancer was 553,251.5"

Although this is not a new report I believe that it is timely in light of the FDA and medical assault on the use of supplements.

To say that conventional medicine "caused" those deaths is disingenuous, because most of those people were sick to begin with; it's presumably why they went to receive treatment.

It would be more accurate to say that conventional medicine contributed to their deaths. Establishing a clear, distinct cause is not easy to do.

Because a person is sick, but not terminal, is not a reason to give the medical profession a pass on their failures. If they died as a result of treatment when they probably wouldn't have otherwise then I believe stating that the medical profession caused their death is appropriate. I have personally seen my share of medical incompetence to believe that these numbers are true.

Add to that 800,000 the average of 1,325,000/year lives lost to abortion since Roe vs Wade and you have some serious numbers.  We are killing our culture out of existence and laughing about it the whole way.  Kind of weird when you stop and reflect on it.  We say we value life, but that is only to make ourselves feel better while we do little to improve the situation.  Ignorance is bliss.
