Robin Hood App

Post by above the herd »

Just came across this app. Starting next year they are offering free trades:

Here is an article about them:

That's pretty cool, although I wonder if it might encourage some people to trade more frequently (usually a losing venture).

Great for the PP, though (as long as it turns out to be safe).

Yes, quite cool. As long as they also come out with an Android app!

I got on the waitlist last night: ref=m3aUbF

34,467 people ahead of me
10,701 people behind me

I'm not the early adopter type, but this makes me drool.  I hate fees.  The only question will be what kinds of products will be offered.  If I can't get the ETFs and funds that comprise my PP then it's mostly pointless, unless I wanted to make it the home of my VP (which isn't a terrible idea).

Great find.

On this other notable forum (FlyerTalk) it is customary to do so called 'Congas' where each newcomer to the party signs up at the referral link of the last person in line.

Thank you for considering: https://www.robinhood.io/?ref=HWSj28

I have recently started using this app and like it thus far.
Anybody else using it with any pros and cons?

I started using but then realized that I hate using my phone for anything serious. I like the idea of zero commission trading, so I'll probably come back once they launch a real website.

I was signing up, then it asked something like "which hardware do you use? iPad/iPhone/Other". I answered OTHER, because I'm on Android. So it told me to take a hike.
Yes, I know there's no Android app, but I figured I'd sign up and be ready whenever it comes. As I've mentioned before, I'm a sucker for these apps...

The real Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest would definitely be an Android user. A man of the people.

You mean only real men use Android. ;)

I never use that phrase!  :) Real men don't need to be defined by others or told what to do!

I use it and I know a few others who do as well. Here's my two second review:

Upside:
Free Trades :)
Each app update adds new features (recently added Stop order types)

Downside:
Very low on features. All researching of instruments should be done outside of the app. Only use the app for the purchase itself.
Sometimes orders (including market orders) do not get executed. One of my coworkers put in a market order overnight and the order was not executed the next day. This issue could be major depending on your trading strategy.
