Donate Button at the Top of the Screen

Post by MediumTex »

At the urging of a member or two, I took the Google ads down and replaced them with the "Donate" button at the top of the page.

If you would like to donate some amount to help support the forum, it would be much appreciated.  Also, if you use the PP book link at the top of the page to get to Amazon, any purchases you make while there will also provide a benefit to the forum.

This feels sort of like a public radio pledge drive, but removing the ads will make the forum a bit easier to navigate and may improve the overall forum experience for some members.

If you make a pledge in the next hour, you will also receive a signed copy of the new CD of Craig and I singing duets.  I don't want to give away too much about this exciting project, but here are four words that might quicken your pulse: Islands in the Stream.

MT... In terms of revenue optimization, you might want to consider having a book recommendations page/thread (in addition to your product recommendations) and optimizing the URLs to include your Amazon referrer ID — and just make your money that way. Might be fun to have a gyroscopicinvesting book club where people buy the book through your referrer URLs!
Nothing I say should be construed as advice or expertise. I am only sharing opinions which may or may not be applicable in any given case.

I agree with Gumby. The MT gear thread, for example, is a perfect candidate for being turned into a static page with Amazon referral IDs.

Kicked a few bucks your way, too. :) This place rocks.

Thanks PS.  Good ideas and the contribution is much appreciated.

Your CD should ship in mid-January.  :)

Damn, I'm getting to this thread too late. Missed out on the Parton/Rogers cover.
Hopefully, my upcoming donation will get me a crawling road umbrella featuring a picture of the crawling road tote bag, as mentioned on The Simpsons.

We still have a few "10 liter hats" with a PP emblem on them that we have left over from a failed PP promotion/collaboration effort with Marc De Mesel.  I could send you one of those in lieu of the duets CD.

Now you're going to know my name and address  8). But fair enough, you and Craig became semi-public when you came out with the book.

Unless you tell me your forum handle in the PayPal notes, I won't know anything except that a nice person made a contribution.

(BTW, thanks to all the nice people who have made contributions.)

I will treat any information I receive as part of a PayPal forum contribution with care and discretion (including forgetting most of it about five minutes after the transaction occurs).

Sounds good. I actually used a credit card when I did mine, so no PayPal notes. I use the same card for Wikipedia and Wounded Warrior. So far so good.
