Might be the case, but better to get confirmation on that. People seem to suggest donottrack.me for GA.Xan wrote: My understanding is that ad blockers DO block Google Analytics.

Nothing I say should be construed as advice or expertise. I am only sharing opinions which may or may not be applicable in any given case.

Rick may just be trying to be helpful to less sophisticated forum members/visitors (I would probably include myself in this group).Xan wrote:My guess is that Rick (remember, he works in the industry) is with a company that relies on web ads for revenue. Just install the dang ad blocker and move on with life!Life's too short to get upset about how websites are tracking people when you have the means to stop it within your own power.
Rick has never provided anything but useful feedback to me on other topics.
I appreciate all points of view on this topic.

I hope what I said didn't come across as anti-Rick. All his points are good.MediumTex wrote:Rick may just be trying to be helpful to less sophisticated forum members/visitors (I would probably include myself in this group).Xan wrote:My guess is that Rick (remember, he works in the industry) is with a company that relies on web ads for revenue. The only truly anti-Rick person I have ever known was Vyvyan:

lol. I miss The Young Ones.
Especially Neil spilling his pot of food and exclaiming glumly, "Oh no. bad karma."
Google what he looks like now. Almost unrecognizable.
I'm glad Rick posted what he did. Even though I already have AdBlock, with plans to upgrade to CATblock (replaces ads with pictures of cats),
I learned a lot from the responses. If he hadn't kicked off the discussion, I'd still be in the dark.
Edited: typo only. Made a fricassee of the word "especially."

And if anyone's worried about offending me, don't (worry). And, no, I don't work in web advertising. Without getting too specific, lets call it internet communications.

There is a big difference between the site actively PROVIDING data to Google and including data in the pages it serves to us. Which our browsers can provide to google if we let them. The difference is that each user has complete control over whether their browser sends this data to google (as discussed above).
It does no service to "unsophisticated users" to leave this detail vague or inaccurate.
