There is a number 1 between the "F" and "U". In other words, if you dial the number in the OP, you won't get the Obamacare help line.
You would need to dial 1-800-F1U-CKYO.
That's still pretty good stuff.

I just woulnd't want someone to call the wrong number.
This may, however, be a sly hat tip to Obama's real goal of moving to a single payer system after Obamacare totally fails.
Considering the large group of people who aren't poor enough to receive Medicaid in states that opted out of Obamacare, after a few years of these people still being frozen out of the hatlh care system the pressure for a single payer system will be stronger than ever.
It's also going to start occuring to people that if Medicare is good enough for the old people and Medicaid is good enough for the poor people, how much worse would a single payer system be for everyone. People who could afford it could still buy supplemental policies, like Medicare recipients do today.
Watching this catastrophe stumble through implementation is going to be fun to watch. It will, however, be sad to see all of the people who won't be able to get coverage who probably thought they would based upon Obama's rhetoric.
As bad as the health care system was before Obamacare (e.g., crazy cost increases, poor ROI on per capita health care spend compared to the rest of the world, lots of people with no coverage at all, etc.), a few years of Obamacare may have people wishing for a return to pre-Obamacare days.
I have outlined what my healthcare reform plan would look like before (i.e., "MediumTexcare"), so I know that there is at least one plausible alternative to Obamacare out there that would be far less stupid than what we are going to see as the reality of Obamacare begins to sink in. Maybe something like my plan will get traction at some point in the future.

A friend of mine who is a doctor told me that he sees a lot of hospitals closing and more doctors retiring as a result of Obamacare.

Anything in the health care industry that gets you out of relying on insurance companies for payment should be hot areas in the future.
The vet clinics in my community are nicer than the human clinics, but you have to pay upfront.
It has crossed my mind more than once about how cool it would be if you could just go to a vet for simple ailments with obvious treatments. You would have a lower bill and you could pick up your medication in the same place you received your care.

Plastic surgeons and LASIK technicians as well. Amazingly enough, these largely unregulated fields whose services must be paid for in cash have been marked over time by superior service and falling costs....

If I die close to the same age as my father it will be about 30 years from now.
What do you think the odds are that the word "Obamacare" will still be in usage and part of the American lexicon by then?
Can't think of anything like it. Did they call Social Security - Roosevelt Security, or Medicaire, "Johnson Care"?

Hard to say. I don't think it will last too long, so it won't matter. In the future people will probably look back on Obamacare the way we look back on "New Coke" today.notsheigetz wrote: If I die close to the same age as my father it will be about 30 years from now.

Single payer is where we are headed. We're already there with the old people, the poor people and the current and former soldiers.

No doubt about that, Tex. Veterinary clinics are an absolute joy, really, compared to anything for people. No red tape, no bureaucracy, pricing is simple and up-front, the treatments (whether drugs or surgery) are easily affordable, virtually everybody in the industry (in my experience) loves what they do.MediumTex wrote:The vet clinics in my community are nicer than the human clinics, but you have to pay upfront.

I would LOVE to go to a vet for most things.

I'm picturing a Monty Python-esque scene where a man walks into a vet clinic claiming to be a dog and demands to be treated like a dog.Xan wrote:No doubt about that, Tex. There was a Seinfeld just about like that. Kramer got a cough, so he found a dog that had the same cough and took it to the vet. Jerry caught him taking pills from a bottle labeled "for Smuckers".MediumTex wrote:I'm picturing a Monty Python-esque scene where a man walks into a vet clinic claiming to be a dog and demands to be treated like a dog.

If Medicare is good enough for the old people and Tricare is good enough for the military, I don't know why it would be the end of the world to have a single payer system for everyone.Pointedstick wrote:No.Reub wrote: If "single payer" is where we are headed, is "single dictator" far behind?
The government has already distorted the health care market in myriad ways. If the government is going to screw it up through intervention, then I would say go ahead and provide everyone with the same type of coverage. In some ways that might even be better than what we have now, which is a mess.
One thing that has always bugged me about the current health care setup is the powerful disincentive it provides to entrepreneurs who have full time jobs that provide health care. If these people have any kind of health conditions at all, they basically must stay with their full time employer because the cost of coverage outside an employer group setting is prohibitive.
Think about all of the wealth that hasn't been created simply because these would-be entrepreneurs never felt comfortable leaving regular full time employment because they wouldn't be able to get health coverage.

Like I keep saying: control
...after watching a few days of Barack Obama’s Shutdown Theater. Do you really think the man who vandalized the World War II Memorial with barricades to make elderly veterans suffer will hesitate a microsecond to use your health care as leverage against you, the next time you defy his commands?
http://www.redstate.com/2013/10/03/next ... r-hostage/
And on the parking lot at mt Vernon which is only partly gov't owned but they are closing also
“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,”? an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”?
