The A train was held up for over 3 hours this morning, ostensibly for a mysterious power outage at West 81st Street. Among other interesting consequences, a woman ended up giving birth in one of the train cars. A friend of mine was on the train and heard something about an explosion on the third rail from police radio. She also said that police were barricading the trains to prevent anyone from getting out, and also the station entrances.
Interestingly, there is no mention of this on any of the news stations or the MTA website, other than a brief paragraph on NY1 (Bloomberg). We're wondering if it's a very well hushed up terrorist attack.
Isn't it great that I just so happened to ride my bicycle to work today :-).
What happened to the NYC subway this morning?

Probably just a genuine power failure?
Just in case, bring that bear spray next time you ride. :-)
