Freeport-McMoRan Looks Interesting

Post by MediumTex »

I own FCX in my VP and it's starting to look like a really good buy for someone thinking of a VP play in the miner space.

Unlike some of its peers, FCX has diversified out of the mining space and into oil and gas E&P with its acquisitions earlier this year of PXP and MMR, and is now a more balanced play across the entire natural resource sector.

Current P/E of 8.81 and forward P/E of 7.41.

40% of earnings are paid out in the form of dividends, which translates into a 4.40% yield at the current share price.

PEG Ratio (if you're into that sort of thing) is .51.

Just something to keep an eye on if you like this sector.
I bought some around $29 per share and it's currently at $26.88.  It's getting dragged down with the rest of the miners, even though the market hasn't figured out yet that FCX doesn't rely as much on gold and silver for its earnings as many of its peers do.
Q: “Do you have funny shaped balloons?”
A: “Not unless round is funny.”
