Any thoughts on the start of a new baseball season?

All is right in the baseball world. Which is to say that Mets are tied for first place and the Yankees are tied for last. Thought I'd get that out while I had the chance. I don't expect it to last very long.

I hope that Lance Berkman can help restore the Rangers' mojo.

The Rangers had a very good team for a couple of seasons, but they have been drifting since the last month of the 2012 season.

My thoughts are that it is frustrating as usual to be a fan of a small-market team in a sport with a wealth distribution amongst its members similar to that of the United States.

Well, living in New York, it sure seems that the Mets are run like a small town team, possibly due to Mr. Madoff's shenanigans. I went to their opening game (which they handily won) and the names mostly were unrecognizable. They did play hard and I liked watching my NY small town team...at least for one day.

I first started following baseball in 1959 when I was six years old.  We lived in the Chicago area and the "Go-Go White Sox" of that year went to the World Series.  I have followed baseball all these years.  The start of a new season is always a great event.  So far, the season is off to a great start with several great pitching performances, to include Yu Darvish's bid for a perfect game last night.  I now live in San Antonio:  I root for the TX Rangers and my son, the optimist, roots for the Houston Astros.  Of course, I'm always a Cubs fan deep down inside and also follow the Dodgers and Angels as we moved to So California just after I turned 13 in late-1965 and lived about 15 minutes away from Angels Stadium.  It was great to see Sandy Koufax throw out the first pitch at the Dodgers' opening game on Monday.  I loved watching him pitch and I loved watching Nolan Ryan pitch for the Angels at that stage of his career.

I personally think the season goes too long.  Baseball is a "warm weather" game.  I hate to see World Series games played in 35-40 degree weather in late October.  The season should go back to 154 games so the playoffs can start earlier.  Also, when it comes to the World Series, the team with the best regular season record should have home field advantage, not the team whose league won the all-star game.  That makes a team's overall record much more valuable.

Just my two cents worth but I'm glad baseball is back.

After they moved my Astros to the designated-hitter league, and are now doing interleague play every night, I'm not sure what to do.  Makes me want to give up on the whole thing.  :-(
