What gold coins have the highest resale value?

Post by globalcash »

I'm about to purchase some coins, but I notice in kitco, the spread between buy and sell varies.  Do some coins appreciate more, barring any numismatic value?

AFAIK Eagles and Krugerrands have the lowest spreads. Although Eagles have a premium, you tend to get a lot of that premium back upon resale.

Thanks!  Eagles seem harder to find here in Asia.  Maples are more common, and pandas even more...oddly enough, in another forum on gold I frequent, some pandas have 'copper imperfections'.  Is this normal?

I guess the liquidity of each coin will change based off where you are. I would try to call a couple of local coin dealers and ask them which coins usually have the lowest spread.  ;)

There is a profitable opportunity to buy gold in HK to re-sell in the USA, profiting from the enormous spread differences on certain coins.

Just make sure you do it right and follow all export and import laws.

For me the most important is to have GOLD, as cheap as possible.

One day if SHTF the most important point is the weight. To sell the gold in a street shop that's what only matters.

Isn't it?

I'm still in the learning phase, but from what I understand, yes, we need to buy gold as cheap as possible, and get to sell it as easily as possible come that future time.

As I continue my research, it seems that Hong kong and Singapore have very little margin above their cost, as in a fraction of a percent, regardless of the type or coin, bullion, or 'tael'.

As an aside, they sure sell a lot of coins commemorating this animal or that holiday...and the Chinese seemed to buy them even with the premium!
