Best Broker for HB PP

Post by frugal »

HELLO!

what is the best US broker to open account for PP creation ?

I live in eurozone, do you think it is a bad idea? I am trying to diversify also, but if any problem occurs with the US broker, i will have difficult to handle, being so far.

Please let me know your opinion. :)

I am happy with Fidelity. They make it easy to buy individual Treasuries and you can trade the Russell 1000 for free, potentially giving you a commission free PP experience if you buy physical bullion.

Schwab, Vanguard, and TDAmeritrade are all good too. They all let you directly buy bonds, and offer commission-free trades on a variety of PP-friendly funds and ETFs, like VTI, TLT, SHY (TDAmeritrade), SCHO, SCHB (Schwab), and all Vanguard funds (Vanguard).

The brokerages that seem to be mentioned most here are: Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab, and TD Ameritrade. All of these are large well-established firms and have acceptable commission-free options for stocks, bonds, and cash. Also E*Trade lets you trade the PERM ETF for free.

Since you live in the eurozone, be sure to ask the USA broker if they cater to euro clients.  The fee structure, rules, etc. will be different.  The brokerages listed here so far are reliable and as far as i know are not associated with the kinds of large banks with high risk trading divisions.  There are some basic anti-fraud protections built into the system via SIPC, but i do not know how well that works for overseas clients.

Just to play it safe though, don't sign any margin agreements!
