New High Tech Scam To Watch Out For Re: Stolen Gold Coins

Post by TripleB »

The FBI is reporting a new, highly intricate scam that's been going on. It involves the creation of a wholly new investing portfolio that in varying iterations of 10% to 40% to hold gold coins. Various backtesting is shown that this method is highly effective, sometimes to 30 or more years.

The scammers then create a website forum where people go to discuss this amazing "new" portfolio, that includes ownership of individual gold coins as a so-called "inflation hedge."

If anyone questions the need to hold actual gold coins, and instead hold ETFs, the scammers use fear tactics to get people to buy individual gold coins.

Sometimes the scammers go as far as to author books on the subject of their "gold backed portfolios" and may even make a presidential campaign to feign legitimacy.

Once the trap is laid, the scammers, who run the discussion forum, know the IP addresses of the members. Since the members are convinced holding gold coins is a good thing, the scammers are able to find the home addresses and rob the members who were tricked into joining.

Be weary of any investing portfolio that advocates gold coin ownership, especially ones that may have discussion forums where IP logging is enabled.

LOL!  Funny conspiracy theory, but it does go to show you that the user database of this particular forum might be more valuable than most.

People, please!  Practice common sense security and don't use the same password on this forum that you use for anything else, especially your email, banking, and trading websites.  I would hate to hear about a compromise of the user database on these forums, which led to anyone losing money.

The hackers are pretty smart and if they compromise the weakest link in your security, they can sometimes get into your email, then reset banking passwords and start to transfer funds.
