balance between paper/physical gold

Post by melveyr »

Hello all,

I am 19 year old PP investor. To make things simple I have all of my gold holdings in the GLD, mainly because i get free equity trades  ;)

However, I am feeling the need to diversify into physical gold. I still want to keep some GLD shares for rebalancing because the commissions are so much lower for me.

Has anyone done the math to figure out the right mix between physical and paper gold? I want to have a sizable physical allocation but maintain low commissions. Has anyone found a happy medium?

I'm sure there is no right answer, but I would say to start a small position in physical gold and build to a point you are comfortable.

Having some physical is a must I would say.  It's hard to really understand the asset from just owning ETFs.
