Thanks to hurricane Sandy, your portfolios get to sit tight for a couple of days. The rumor that the stock exchange is under 3 feet of water may not be true, but lower Manhattan is a mess.
Storm, hope your name hasn't been too prophetic and you are ok out there in queens.

Re: Enforced non-checking of portfolio
I'm cool with not checking my portfolio. A watched pot never boils.
But if it goes on for a long time maybe some of us will start thinking about access to our assets during times like this.

I always feel more relaxed when the markets are closed.
It's cool. It's like the world is on break for a couple of days (though obviously not for a good reason).
I predict that many babies will be born about 9 months from now.

Thanks WiseOne. We are actually doing fine - the in-laws live in Queens but they came to stay with us in Milford, CT during the storm. We actually live right on a pond that leads to the ocean and had a really interesting time watching a dumpster float up behind our apartment:WiseOne wrote: Thanks to hurricane Sandy, your portfolios get to sit tight for a couple of days. I called the company, All American Waste, and let them know they could come pick it up today! You might enjoy these pictures I posted from last year's hurricane Irene - the water level was higher this year but it was dark at high tide so the pictures didn't really turn out. We were lucky and the water level never reached our garage. Hope you're doing ok in NYC as well

Right next to us is an empty lot and a Tax accountant's office building. I think they had extensive water damage:

One of my neighbors forgot to move their car:

At least the geese are enjoying the weather:
