Does it really matter for the PP purposes whether the coins are brand new? I guess not, it's probably nothing more than just marketing pitch.

"Random year" coins
One gold dealer's website lists different prices for "2012 American Eagle" and "Random year American Eagle" coins, the former being a tad more expensive.

Re: "Random year" coins
They are more expensive because people want to purchase new things. Also, sometimes they tend to be still sealed in their original packaging from the mint. In general, if you expect to hold the coins for longer than a year, then buying new coins is not worthwhile because they will become a random dated year in one year. A 2011 coin was at one point a higher price than the random years because it was new, now it has joined the ranks of random. 2012 will be no different.foglifter wrote: One gold dealer's website lists different prices for "2012 American Eagle" and "Random year American Eagle" coins, the former being a tad more expensive.

Re: "Random year" coins
No it doesn't matter. The gold in the portfolio is not for collector value so year is not an issue.
