Local coin shop -- owner busted

Post by fmsailor »

An area coin shop had a few 10th oz gold eagles selling for what the online shops were buying for. Being new to this, I just browsed, asked a few questions and walked away.

A little Googling turned up that the owner was busted for selling fake coins and autographs...along with dealing in other various illegal activity.

The shop looks like any other coin shop. The owner just happens to be crooked.

I have no idea if the eagles were genuine, as I didn't have my calipers and scale with me.

I don't mean to bash local shops. Just but be sure to stay vigilant out there.

I'm surprised he's still in business.  >:(

He's already been tried and convicted on the fraudulent dealings issue. Was sentenced but is out on bail pending appeal. Supposedly he's still dealing in the business out of state and the store is still open with another person manning the counter.

However, he's currently working through the legal system on a new set of charges. He'll most likely do time if convicted.

They were packing crap in boxes when I was in there. I'm sure the reputation is well known in the area.
