I was once prescribed Vioxx for a condition involving debilitating pain in my foot (as in I can't walk on it, it hurts so bad). Doctors had no explanation for it but they came up with the diagnosis of "psoriatic arthritis" since they had no other explanation and I did have psoriasis (watching House I've confirmed my own suspicions that medicine isn't the exact science we think it is).
I only took it for a couple of months and I can report that whatever was wrong with my foot, it DID work very well - so they got that part right.
Since hearing about the negative side-effects of Vioxx I've been very skeptical of taking any medication that is hyped on TV and I've actually been fired by a doctor for refusing to take another one (Lipitor).
