What's wrong with this picture?

Post by notsheigetz »

I set up a hypothetical 400k PP in Morningstar at the beginning of the year using 4 of the most common ETF's to track PP performance. Each ETF started out with as close to $100k as I could get. Can someone help me correct my understanding about YTD performance as it obviously isn't what I was thinking unless this chart's math is completely off. According to simple calculations I can do in my head all the YTD figures seem wrong. For example, the LTT's market value is down almost $1k but shows a 2.06 % YTD return. So what am I missing?

Is it including dividends?
Human behavior is economic behavior. The particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant.

Maybe that has something to do with it but it seems like a lot of dividends (And I didn't think IAU paid dividends).

That looks about right to me.

It looks like the YTD performance does not include dividends.

The SHY quote is what really tells me that dividends aren't included.

I just looked again this morning and although the market values have not changed, the YTD returns are totally different. The TLT actually looks correct this time but the bottom line, I guess, is to not put too much stock in the figures.
