Did you accidentally hit the "-" symbol below the simple machines forum on the upper-right side of the screen?

We may upgrade the forum software in the near future and may need some people to come over and move some furniture around.

No problem. I tried going for a little whiles with the "-" sign pushed but realized not only can you not see the unread post links but you also can not see the Search Bar. I've found I might as well just suck it up and deal with the slightly less space on my computer screen then.

And craigr, in regards to this virtual furniture, do you need us to virtual come over to help move it and to make sure to lift with our virtual legs to prevent a virtual backache?

We probably will just need people to hit their browser refresh button and maybe log in again.

I highly recommend Vanilla Forums for forum software. It's highly extensible (such as native Facebook integration, which is a breeze). Not only does it integrate with Blog comments, but it's extremely user-friendly and easy on the eyes. Also works great with mobile browsers out of the box.

You have the choice of downloading a free open-source version or pay the developers to build, host and maintain on their RackSpace CDN (via http://vanillaforums.com).

They even have an exporter from Simple Machines Forum to Vanilla (previously you had to export to phpbb and then to Vanilla).

PHPBoard (which is still free) is far superior to SMF, in my opinion. Didn't used to be.  But now it's easier to install, easier to use the features and it's more stable.  They even have an app that will allow you to migrate the posts.

I also think it looks more professional.

I would like to see those buttons that let you distribute links to your post on delicious, reddit, etc. as I'd like to drive more traffic to this here forums.

All good input. The version we use is because it was the simplest and least problem-prone of the forum software. I'll look to see what has changed the past couple years. I avoided the other forums before simply because of reliability issues. SMF 1.1.x we use has been 100% problem free from an admin perspective. But it is getting long in the tooth...

Since I am sure I am not the only one checking the forums on a smartphone in landscape mode, I think it would be great to have the poster's login name just above the poster's post, not on the left. That would allow zooming onto the post, which makes the poster's avatar and login name disappear, but would make it possible to know who's posting what.

Thank you!
