Post by sk55 »

i typically make contributions monthly,  so i just need something to track my gains YTD?

The best and simplest way I've found is to use the "XIRR" function.

i am using the XIRR as part of my spread sheet in open office, i built it (converted from excel or Google docs i cant recall which) from a template that was posted here on the forum, but i haven't been able to find the thread it was posted in  (my late night Google-fu is failing me)  if somebody else doesn't come up with a link for you i will try again tomorrow..

My spreadsheet that he's referring to uses xirr to calculate both total returns and YTD returns.  This is the post that contains the link and a set of basic instructions for anyone who is looking for it.

I'm happy to answer any questions regarding its functionality.

i found the XIRR_CAGR template i was thinking of, it was posted by MCSquared,

hoosts template looks like a very good one as well.. it tracks more than just the XIRR, it is "all in one" and is similar to the one i have built up for myself from a variety of templates posted here.
