I'm currently dealing with trying to get a nice finish back on mine. I put oil on it and put it in the stove for a couple hours, but I don't seem to be making meaningful progress. Enlighten me oh wise one.
I’m no expert, but I read that you should try a ½ teaspoon of oil and apply it with a bit of towel or paper towel.
Use an oil with a high smoke point.

We mostly use a little Crisco on a multi folded paper towel and apply to a hot water washed (rarely with a drop or two of detergent) to a skillet heated until you can see the water vapor has finished steaming off. Turn off heat before applying Crisco and be careful not to burn yourself. Continue wiping off the excess Crisco, if any, until the skillet is smooth with no little stripes or drops of Crisco. We store the greased skillet (greased inside and out) in a cold oven to keep from banging with other pans or utensils.

I store mine in the oven, too. Sometimes I let it bake in there when the oven is heating up for something else.
Will have to try Crisco sometime.
(Side note: When I was growing up, my mom knew a lady who put a tiny amount of Crisco on her face every night and she had very good skin. I think that would just give me pimples. )
In case I didn’t already mention it:
our pan is a grille pan with ridges so it’s a little more annoying to oil and to clean than a smooth, flat pan.

Hi Mountaineer,
All good "down under". Spring will be here in a week so some more travel is likely. Still quite impressed a little walkie talkie the size of a packet of cigarettes, is able to communicate with the USA via the local repeater. Was listening to someone from Louisiana chatting to a local farmer this morning. Anything interesting happening your end?

6 days in what ways?

It was not clear you were only referring to you. I'd originally interpreted it as referring to all participation by all participants in this topic.

If anything ever deviates from the standard, Mathjak’s “I am the Master of the Universe” and seajay’s “Trump has made a pariah of the United States” I’ll be sure to let you know.
“No matter how cynical you get, it’s impossible to keep up.”
So I’m researching EVs on reddit and a poster says go to this dealer in burbank, they gave him list price -$7k low income grant. I get the sales guy’s number from the poster, he says sure. Morning of appointment “my manager cant budge on the add-ons”
I go in, figuring they’ll add $500 for nitrogen in the tires and I’ll say no, like when I bought the Mini. (Manual trans and used from Toyota dealer, so in hindsight I had leverage)
Sales guy gives me the paper, $3,000 markup and not flexible. I don’t know why I wasn’t prepared to walk. Didnt think fraud would be egregious. All the models of the car are at this dealer, and only this dealer is pre-approved by the low income grant program. sus
They make me wait 40 min and I cool down, go to pay and finance lady says “Howbout extended warranty for $2500?” I say they just soaked me with add-ons. “Howbout I bring it down to 2k?” Said I’d have to read fine print later. “Sure you don’t want to get it over with?”
While up most of that night seething I realized poster was the dealer. Emptied my checking account so the check wont clear bcuz they were instructed to hold it until I got confirmation the state is sending the grant.
They tried to cash it and it was blocked, now I dunno what situation is. I have some DMV paperwork and they still have $5k from credit card.
I’m in the coping phase now. There was a bunch of staff there, these dealers cannot list at actual cost to compete with Carvana and Carmax. I don’t what jobs they can get, but this dealership model has to go. The problem with sociopaths is you don’t know what they’re capable of.
Edit: read the fine print, in verbal negotiation they honored a $500 coupon, then the finance lady removed the discount. Peeve of mine, when I have an inkling of something – I thought the grand total sounded high – but I don’t act on that intuition. To think, these folks do this all day every day. Now they want a cashiers check and I want a refund of that 500. All the fees other than sales tax are BS but there are employees all over r/askcarsales gaslighting
Boglerdude, what a shameful dealership story. Sorry you had to go through that mess. Hope it all gets settled soon and to your satisfaction. And that you don’t find out Gavin Newsome owns the place. Time to get out of CA?

Speaking of finance, I bumped into Ochotona while researching debit cards online. Well, I encountered his posts from 3 years ago. Same cat in the profile pic as here at gyro.
Wasnt expecting problems so didnt write check number. And not used to writing checks. Gave cashiers check and they claim they'll refund the 500 they overcharged (on top of 3k markup). CA also doing low income grants for heat pumps and contractor you're forced to work with overcharges. I might agree this is better than UBI but there should be freedom to pick the dealer/contractor and should be rebate not a payment to contractor. I'll keep my pie-hole shut till I get the car cuz who knows what they might do. "AI" is making fake profiles and reviews easier cuz dealer doesnt seem worried about my review. Id really be seething if I gave them 2.5k for extended warranty. Always have to know what its worth and have an exit strategy. I was stunned 1st time I got fired cuz didnt have a backup plan. If I ever marry, my bags will always be packed and prenup in order.
At first I was shocked that you didn’t record the check number, but I see you used a cashier’s check. I have only very limited experience with that and I probably didn’t write down the number for that either.

Momma Smithers is once again in town. The weather is beautiful, and fortunately not so hot that the house feels too warm.
We had a recent discussion regarding finances. Looks like in the next couple years her pension amount will be decreasing pretty substantially. I'll probably be picking up some of the shortfall for her monthly expenditures.

Currently paying homage to the Intel Celeron in my avatar—the processor that allowed a low-income family like mine to afford a computer in the '90s.

...
Debit cards?
I have one. But I have never made a debit card transaction in my life and I will probably die that way.
Yes, debit cards. You’re like most reasonable people. I only used debit cards until I graduated to credit some decades ago, and I have never looked back until now. Now, I’m interested in using one in a store that charges 3% for using a credit card.
- I had to relearn everything about PIN vs PINless transactions.
- You can’t easily set maximums on daily transactions without calling the bank. (But some let you lock and unlock the card online).
- I do aready have a debit card linked to Apple Cash — this is just for splitting pizza with friends, so it’s very safe.
We’ll see how it goes. I don’t like the idea of even taking my debit cards out of the house except for ATM runs, but it’s possible that this surcharge for using credit will become a trend. Hope not.
